I spent much of the week creating more price tags while RenMan finished up another large doctor's scale and a broken old neon GE Radio sign (which I'm realizing we never took a picture of - URRGHH!). Friday evening, otherwise known as "how the hell are we going to pack all this into two SUVs day", was spent pretty much how it sounded. But RenMan kind of has a car packing gene in his DNA.
We were ready to go around 9:00 pm, so I decided to upcycle some t-shirts obtained at Goodwill and Salvation Army into re-usable shopping bags. It's a simple process. Cut off the sleeves, cut the necks wider, turn the t-shirt inside out and sew across the bottom. I did 10 bags in under an hour. RenMan baked a loaf of chocolate-chip banana bread. (We aren't lying when we say he does EVERYTHING.)
Half hour later. Still no sign of key. House in complete disarray. RenMan threatening to call it quits and not go. We swallow our pride and call over for the extra set. Five minutes later I find the key in the kitchen drawer with the flashlights. We have no idea. I'm sure I meant to grab the little black flashlight off the counter to put it away and instead grabbed the key.
So a half hour behind schedule we are off. Only to wait in the line I mentioned above for another 45 minutes. With a lot of help from our 8-year-old daughter (which will probably result in much needed therapy later on) we were completely set u p by 9:30. Only a half hour AFTER the flea had opened. But fortunately half the vendors were in our same position, so we didn't feel so bad.
What would be the first sale? It was the upcycled tool box that was blogged about this summer here.
Probably the funniest moment was when another vendor came to our tent and asked RenMan if he was "THE Renaissance Man."
End of the day...we were successful (by our own internal measurement) and we were invited back. Not sure we are the right fit for the November Holiday Flea, but look for us there in future months. Until then...we have some auctions to get to.
THANK YOU to our friends and co-workers (who are also friends, but I guess get their own group) for shopping the flea and stopping in to see us. Thank you to our customers, we hope you come back again. Thank you to Mom and Dad for waking up at 7AM on a Saturday and bringing us an extra set of keys.
